Really, I'm not heartless.

I totally understand how you feel, I have often felt the same way under similar circumstances. I try to remind myself that I do help people I just feel safer doing it through a group rather than just an individual, and yet other times I feel just as you have, and wonder if I am becoming heartless.

Here is hoping that we do not ever get to that point.
Sweetheart, you can't save the world.
Even if you gave every penny you had, imagine, that would buy a cup of coffee or maybe a single meal for a miniscule percentage of those in need around the world. It would solve nothing. All it would do is put you into that same position.
The reason you feel bad is because you have compassion and you appreciate your fortune compared to those who have so little.
But you can't help everyone.
What you could so is research and decide of a way that you will help, whether it's a set donation to a charity of your choice or volunteering your time somewhere.
And then accept that you can't solve the world's problems and nor can you feel guilty about every person in the world that has less than you do.
You deserve happiness, not saying that they don't too. But you have what you have and deserve to enjoy it.
